Day 3 - Don't Afraid

There is nothing like be woken up to the sound of the PA system announcing that there is an emergency meeting being held in 15 minutes. Living on a boat, I can tell you that there is a certain amount of fear. It isn't like when you have to walk home very late at night by yourself, or when you suspect your neighbor might be stealing your mail, but rather, you know that your entire well being is in the hands of a whole lot of iron and steel.

So, I quickly dressed, silently bad-mouthing my late night dancing, and ran upstairs to find the captain, an odd sight in it of itself.

His opening words were, "Don't afraid." The captain is from Greece, and his English is quite good and has a charmingly heavy accent that always makes me chuckle a bit. He went on to say that our beloved ship was headed directly into the path of a typhoon. YAY!

I survived countless typhoons in Japan, and in all honesty, I thought I was rid of them once I left, but it seems they are keen to follow me as long as they can. As long as I don't have to ride my bike in them anymore, I think I can survive.

With this news, the captain says, "Safety first, we go around typhoon path." This means that we will be going far further south than expected, and we might miss Vietnam altogether. This saddens me because I was really looking forward to having some clothes made in Vietnam, but this isn't even the worst news.

In addition to potentially missing a port, we will also be going through the aftermath of the typhoon, namely, some really choppy water. The captain recommends that we don't wear high heels, and that we stay in our cabins. Looks like I might have yet another date with Mr. T...
