Day 16 - Let Them Eat Cake

So, even though my birthday isn't until tomorrow, we will be landing in India that day, so everyone decided to celebrate early.

One of the things I miss most about the boat is the lack of technology. Most people think this is a good thing, and I certainly understand them, but I wish we had things like cell phones or email. I would love to stay in touch with the world, but more importantly, I would love to be able to communicate with people ON the boat. It is nearly impossible to track people down when you need to. Suddenly the boat feels like a forest, or some other place easy to get lost. I mean, there aren't that many places to hide, and yet, people are able to disappear for hours.

That said, some of the super cool people on the boat decided to help me celebrate my birthday. It started at the evening meeting where someone bought me 6 slices of cake (you apparently can't buy a whole cake). They were delicious. There were three different flavors, and I sampled each.

After the meeting, we all headed down to dinner. Another friends told the restaurant it was my birthday, so they brought me a cake, and everyone sang. The cake was a delightful toffee flavor, and was so cold it was almost like ice cream. We spent a long time talking and laughing...so long that a second cake came out. Apparently another friend ordered a cake for me. This one was pineapple. It had a delicious filling and was very creamy. After the third cake, however, I was full!

Later that evening we had a going away party in the bar for a friend getting off the boat. We all headed upstairs and piled into Sports Bar. When I got there though, what was waiting for me? You guessed it, another cake! This one was chocolately and drizzled with a hot fudge. And, seeing as how we were already at the bar, several people bought me a shot of tequila...WOOHOO! Cake and Tequila. Is there a better combination?

See, these are the kind of things that could be avoided if cell phones or email existed on the boat. People could communicate, and there would be only one great cake with everyone present at the same time. But...I have to admit, the attention was nice, and I do have a sweet tooth. Not a bad day...
